History
Peugeot goes back to a family business founded in 1810 that started with a steel mill and expanded into saws, tools, and bicycles. The first Peugeot vehicle followed in 1889, a steam tricycle designed by Léon Serpollet; a year later the family switched to the petrol engine. In 1896, Armand Peugeot broke away with the Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot, still counted as the world's oldest car company. Following its merger with PSA Group and the subsequent combination with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Peugeot has formed a core brand of Stellantis since 2021.
EV strategy
In late 2021 Peugeot promised to sell only electric cars in Europe from 2030. That no longer holds: in August 2026 the brand laid out seven new or updated models through 2030, half of them combustion and hybrid cars. On the electric side the range runs from city car to seven-seater, on the e-CMP2 platform (e-208, e-2008) and on Stellantis' STLA Medium (e-3008, e-5008).
Good to know
- The Peugeot family business dates to 1810, the first vehicle to 1889, the car company itself to 1896.
- The e-3008 is one of the flagships of Peugeot's electric push.
- In 2021 Peugeot was the first mainstream maker to offer an electric model in every one of its segments.
- The e-3008 and e-5008 receive battery preheating as standard equipment.
