History

Mercedes-Benz was formed in 1926 through the merger of two pioneering companies: Benz & Cie. (founded 1883) and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (founded 1890). The merger saved both firms from bankruptcy during Germany's post-war economic crisis. In 2022, Daimler AG was renamed Mercedes-Benz Group and spun off its commercial vehicle business.

EV strategy

Mercedes-Benz reset its electric strategy in 2025: EQ is no longer a separate brand but a name suffix, and combustion and electric cars will share model names and design language. For 2026 the company announced 16 new models, the biggest product push in its history, a good half of them combustion cars. By 2027 electrified vehicles are meant to account for more than 30 percent of sales.
