History

The name comes from Birmingham: LDV, which grew out of the Leyland DAF van works, built a van called the Maxus from 2004 and collapsed in the 2008 financial crisis. SAIC secured the rights and founded SAIC Maxus in Shanghai in March 2011. In the United Kingdom and Ireland the brand has been called Maxus again since 2020, while in Australia and New Zealand it still runs as LDV.

EV strategy

Maxus is above all a commercial vehicle brand: panel vans, pickups and large MPVs, many of them with a battery electric version. SAIC does not sell the brand itself in Europe but works through importers; in Germany, sales run through Maxomotive in Cologne.

Good to know

The brand name comes from the last van built by British manufacturer LDV.
In Australia, New Zealand and South Africa the same vehicles are still sold as LDV.
With the EUNIQ 7, Maxus brought a hydrogen fuel cell MPV to market in 2021.
