History

The company traces back to Dong-A Motor (1954) and became SsangYong Motor Company in 1988 after acquisition by the SsangYong Group. Following successive ownership by Daewoo, SAIC, and Mahindra, South Korean KG Group acquired the company in 2022 and rebranded it as KG Mobility in March 2023.

EV strategy

KG Mobility leans mainly on hybrids and slots electric models in alongside them: the Torres EVX and, since March 2025, the Musso EV. In June 2026 the company announced seven new models by 2030, starting in January 2027 with the SE10 SUV developed with Chery, which arrives on Chery's T2X platform as a plug-in hybrid and as a petrol car.

  • In 2025 the Musso EV was the first electric pickup from a major South Korean manufacturer.
  • Rebranding from SsangYong to KG Mobility in March 2023 marked repositioning efforts.
