History
Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and revolutionized the automotive industry through mass production. The 1913 assembly line and the legendary Model T made cars affordable for millions. Ford dominated the 20th century and shaped motorized mobility worldwide.
EV strategy
Ford has refocused its electrification on what pays: affordable electric cars, hybrids and extended-range vehicles. The new Universal EV Platform first carries a midsize pickup at around 30,000 dollars, which Ford intends to build in Louisville from 2027. For 2030 the company expects roughly half its global volume to come from hybrids, extended-range vehicles and electric cars; in 2025 the figure was 17 percent.
Good to know
- The Model T (1908–1927) was the best-selling car of its era and democratized automobile access.
- Henry Ford did not invent the assembly line but perfected it for modern mass production.
- By 1923, Ford produced over 50% of all American cars.
- The headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, is closely tied to Henry Ford's family heritage.
