History

e.GO grew out of RWTH Aachen University in 2015, driven by production researcher Günther Schuh. From 2019 the small e.GO Life city car was built in Aachen. After a first insolvency in spring 2020, Dutch investor nd Industrial Investments took over, and in October 2023 the company listed on Nasdaq. A second insolvency filing followed in March 2024, and at the end of May 2024 the administrator decided to wind the company up.

EV strategy

The thinking behind e.GO was the MicroFactory: small, repeatable plants with modest capital needs instead of one big high volume factory, building a deliberately simple electric city car. Pre-sales for the successor model, the e.wave X, opened in autumn 2022, but it never reached series production.

Good to know

  • Across its entire history e.GO sold around 1,350 vehicles.
  • Five months passed between the Nasdaq listing in October 2023 and the second insolvency filing.
  • Founder Günther Schuh had previously built StreetScooter and sold it to Deutsche Post in 2014.
