History
Citroen was founded on June 4, 1919, by André Citroën, who converted his World War I munitions factory into an automobile manufacturing plant. Citroen became renowned for innovation, particularly with the 1934 Traction Avant, the world's first mass-produced car with front-wheel drive and independent four-wheel suspension. In 2021, Citroen became part of Stellantis, created through the merger of the PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
EV strategy
Under Stellantis, Citroen offers several powertrains, with affordable compact electric cars such as the ë-C3, ë-C4 and ë-C5 Aircross at its core. The 2CV is coming back, but later than first announced: it appears as a prototype at the Paris motor show in October 2026 and goes into production in 2028 at Pomigliano d'Arco in Italy, fully electric and below 15,000 euros.
