History

Alpine was founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé, a Dieppe garage owner who initially achieved success in motorsport with the Renault 4CV. The name is based on his victories in the Coupe des Alpes mountain race. Renault fully acquired the brand in 1973. In 2021, Renault merged its Renault Sport division with Alpine, establishing it as an independent, sports-car-focused business unit with the goal of becoming a leading French sports car specialist.

EV strategy

Alpine is turning the brand fully electric while sticking to lightweight engineering. The A290 arrived in 2024, deliveries of the Dieppe-built A390 crossover began in early 2026, and in mid-2026 production of the petrol A110 ended there after almost 30,000 cars. Its successor is the first car on the in-house Alpine Performance Platform and is announced for late 2026; Alpine pushed its US launch back to around 2030 over tariffs and homologation hurdles.
