History

Alfa Romeo was founded in 1910 in Milan as A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) to take over the assets of the French carmaker Darracq. In 1915, the company was acquired by Nicola Romeo, who changed the name to Alfa Romeo in 1918. The brand evolved into a symbol of Italian elegance, performance, and passion with legendary racing cars and luxury road vehicles. In 2021, Alfa Romeo became part of Stellantis.

EV strategy

Alfa Romeo has abandoned its electric-only course. The new Giulia and Stelvio generations were due in 2025 and 2026; in early 2026 the brand pushed them back to 2028 and started over, on the STLA Large platform and with combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains side by side. CEO Santo Ficili blames weak demand for electric cars.
