History

Abarth & C. was founded in 1949 by Carlo Abarth in Bologna and relocated to Turin in 1951, where the brand settled at the legendary Mirafiori plant. The company specialized in performance modifications and racing vehicles based on Fiat models. Since its acquisition by Fiat in 1971, Abarth has functioned as the Italian conglomerate's performance division. In 2021, Abarth became part of Stellantis following the merger of FCA and the PSA Group.

EV strategy

Abarth first committed entirely to electric power and to this day offers only the 500e and the 600e. It did not work out: after weak sales the brand has been weighing a return to petrol since 2025, because its customers like to modify their cars themselves and an electric car barely allows that. Nothing has been decided (as of August 2026).
